We are excited to support our client in finding exceptional Basic Ship Design Engineers and Systems & Equipment Engineers across disciplines as they embark on a groundbreaking shipbuilding project—designing one of the world’s largest and most advanced polar research icebreakers. This state-of-the-art vessel will push the boundaries of icebreaking technology, sustainability, and scientific exploration.
Are you a well experienced Systems Engineer - Machinery Systems who's excited to be part of something big? Join their team in Wismar who covers the basic design, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning supervision for this one-of-a-kind project.
As Systems Engineer for Machinery Systems, you will:
Be responsible for the design and integration of critical ship machinery systems, including propulsion, engine rooms, fuel systems, seawater cooling, bilge and ballast systems, and more.
Prepare system diagrams, technical documentation, and specifications for procurement and production.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination between machinery systems and other ship systems (e.g., HVAC, structural, piping, electrical).
Ensure compliance with classification society rules and client-specific requirements, especially those related to Arctic operations and icebreaker machinery resilience.
Support lifecycle design activities from concept to commissioning and participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
Interface with equipment suppliers and clients to support system configuration and selection.
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Solid understanding of marine machinery systems and ship system integration.
Experience with system design tools and marine 3D design software (e.g., Cadmatic, AVEVA).
Familiarity with classification society requirements (DNV, LR, ABS) and IMO regulations.
A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with strong teamwork and communication skills.
Good written and spoken communication skills in English. German a great plus!
Willingness to relocate and be based in Wismar, Germany.
