We are excited to support our client in finding exceptional Basic Ship Design Engineers and Systems & Equipment Engineers across disciplines as they embark on a groundbreaking shipbuilding project—designing one of the world’s largest and most advanced polar research icebreakers. This state-of-the-art vessel will push the boundaries of icebreaking technology, sustainability, and scientific exploration.

Basic Design Phase:
- Develop electrical and automation system concepts for the vessel, ensuring compliance with project requirements, international standards, and classification society regulations.
- Design power distribution systems, including high and low voltage networks, emergency power, and shore connection systems.
- Define specifications for essential shipboard automation and control systems, including propulsion control, dynamic positioning, and integrated monitoring systems.
- Create single-line diagrams, load balance calculations, and system layouts for early-stage planning.
- Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and mission equipment specialists to ensure seamless integration of electrical and automation systems.
- Evaluate and select electrical components and equipment, ensuring compatibility with extreme operating conditions in polar environments.
- Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure technical specifications and quality standards are met.
- Support the preparation of technical documentation and system manuals for regulatory approval and client use.
- Assist in testing, verification, and commissioning of electrical and automation systems during later project stages.
Functie eisen
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding electrical and automation system design, preferably in the basic and detailed engineering phases.
- Strong understanding of shipboard power distribution, automation architecture, and marine electrical standards (IMO, IEC, SOLAS, and classification society rules).
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar) and simulation software for electrical systems.
- Knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and marine automation technologies is an advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Strong communication skills in English (German proficiency is a plus).
