We are excited to support our client in finding exceptional Basic Ship Design Engineers and Systems & Equipment Engineers across disciplines as they embark on a groundbreaking shipbuilding project—designing one of the world’s largest and most advanced polar research icebreakers. This state-of-the-art vessel will push the boundaries of icebreaking technology, sustainability, and scientific exploration.

Are you a well experienced Electrical and Automation Systems Engineer  who's excited to be part of something big? Join their team in Wismar who covers the  basic design, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning supervision for this one-of-a-kind  project.

Basic Design Phase:

  • Develop electrical and automation system concepts for the vessel, ensuring compliance with project requirements, international standards, and classification society regulations.
  • Design power distribution systems, including high and low voltage networks, emergency power, and shore connection systems.
  • Define specifications for essential shipboard automation and control systems, including propulsion control, dynamic positioning, and integrated monitoring systems.
  • Create single-line diagrams, load balance calculations, and system layouts for early-stage planning.
  • Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and mission equipment specialists to ensure seamless integration of electrical and automation systems.
  • Evaluate and select electrical components and equipment, ensuring compatibility with extreme operating conditions in polar environments.
  • Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure technical specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation and system manuals for regulatory approval and client use.
  • Assist in testing, verification, and commissioning of electrical and automation systems during later project stages.

Functie eisen

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding electrical and automation system design, preferably in the basic and detailed engineering phases.
  • Strong understanding of shipboard power distribution, automation architecture, and marine electrical standards (IMO, IEC, SOLAS, and classification society rules).
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g., EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar) and simulation software for electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and marine automation technologies is an advantage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Strong communication skills in English (German proficiency is a plus).
