A Material & Welding Engineer is required by a leading shipbuilding yard in the South Netherlands. This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer with at least 5 years’ experience and a strong knowledge of metallurgy, materials processing (welding & joining), non-destructive testing and materials codes & standards.

As the Material & Welding Engineer you will have full responsibility for the coordination, execution and control of the metallurgical and welding activities within the engineering office and ensuring that all activities are in line with the project time schedule, quality standards and budget.

Tasks

  • To specify, monitor and advise on all materials, metallurgical, fabrication and welding aspects during the engineering and construction phases.
  • Review all technical requirements and ensure that the manufacturers, suppliers, engineering disciplines and construction yards are complying with the international rules, codes, standards and procedures.
  • Carry out technical audits, evaluations, testing and inspections relating to welding requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Interface with client, subcontractors and yards for resolution of metallurgy and welding issues.
  • Assist in material failure investigations and engineering assessments and suggest suitable actions to prevent/minimize any deviations in terms of cost and time of delivery.
  • Assist management in outsourcing activities (preparation of technical documentation for subcontracting activities, management of man-hours and costs associated).
  • Ensure the quality and compliance of materials with equipment packages and provide technical recommendations and advice on said materials, welding activities, fabrication and metallurgical matters when required.

Job requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the Maritime Industry. (Ideal experience in Naval, offshore or Oil & Gas)
  • Bachelor degree in either materials, welding, metallurgy or mechanical engineering plus an International Welding Engineer (IWE) diploma. (FROSIO qualification advantageous)
  • Strong knowledge of the following codes and standards. ISO, API, ASME
  • Good knowledge of the English language (Written & Spoken)
  • Strong communication skills and a pro-active attitude with proven experience in providing technical leadership, problem solving and management of several activities/projects at one time.

Conditions

This vacancy is offered on a contractual basis with our client for a minimum of 12 months with the view to go beyond and the Material & Welding Engineer will receive an appropriate package of employment conditions. We are happy to inform you about these conditions in a personal interview.
