We are excited to support our client in finding exceptional Basic Ship Design Engineers and Systems & Equipment Engineers across disciplines as they embark on a groundbreaking shipbuilding project—designing one of the world’s largest and most advanced polar research icebreakers. This state-of-the-art vessel will push the boundaries of icebreaking technology, sustainability, and scientific exploration.

Are you a well experienced Basic Design - General Construction (Steel) Engineer who's excited to be part of something big? Join their team in Wismar who covers the  basic design, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning supervision for this one-of-a-kind  project. 

Tasks

As a General Construction Engineer (Steel), you will:

  • Take responsibility for the basic design of steel structures in accordance with class rules and shipbuilding standards.

  • Develop general arrangements, load-bearing structures, foundations, bulkheads, and outfitting supports.

  • Support structural layout integration with other disciplines such as machinery, piping, and HVAC.

  • Ensure compliance with ice-class and polar design requirements, collaborating closely with classification societies.

  • Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Deliver clear documentation and support procurement, production, and commissioning teams as the design progresses.

Job requirements

What We Expect From You

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Strong understanding of steel structural design and construction principles for marine applications.

  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (e.g., Cadmatic)

  • Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., DNV, LR, ABS) and international shipbuilding standards.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in international, cross-disciplinary teams.

  • Problem-solving attitude and proactive approach to project challenges.

  • Good command of English (spoken and written). German a great plus!

  • Able to be relocate and be based in Wismar, Germany
