Lead Instrumentation Designer

Our client's Instrument Department handles Engineering and Design for Process Control and Instrumentation Systems, Integrated Control & Safety Systems, Fire & Gas Systems, and Telecommunication Systems, including field devices.

The Lead Instrument Designer:

• Reports to the Discipline Lead Engineer.
• Defines instrumentation design, guides the team locally and remotely.
• Ensures quality, adheres to standards, and addresses deviations.
• Provides input on project changes, monitors progress, and proposes solutions.
• Manages information flow, challenges, and improves the design process.
• Coordinates with other disciplines, reviews sub-contractor documents.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, standards, and client needs.
• Contributes to on-site support, and mentors junior designers.

To be successful in your role of Lead Instrumentation Designer, you need: 

• Vocational College or BSC degree, with 8+ years of Instrumentation design experience.
• Proficient in SmartPlant Instrumentation, experience with Aveva 3D design is a plus.
• Familiar with complex mechanical package interfacing.
• Ability to manage remote design teams.
• Competence in hazardous area instrumentation design (e.g., IECEx001).

In addition to the education and experience outlined:

• Proactive, problem-solving mindset.
• Proficient in English (verbal and written).
• MS Office skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Strong team player, safety-conscious, and takes ownership.
